We are supporting Me & Dee Charity this year

We have chosen Me & Dee Charity to support this year.

Led by Maria Hanson, the Me & Dee Charity was formed in 2006 to create special experiences for families with life limiting conditions.

Having experienced 18 major operations, some of which were lifesaving, which led to scarring and leaving her with two stoma bags, Maria and her cousin, Delia, who at the time had cancer, realised it was incredibly difficult to access any kind of funding to help with their conditions.

Maria said,”we were amazed at the number of charities with huge tick box forms, excluding many, including myself, who could not tick a box when applying for help. It just seemed like a huge need to jusitfy yourself and there was little personal interaction.”

Maria and her cousin, Delia, decided to do something about it and to create a charity with a very simple application form and no tick boxes, providing 24/7 phone support. Sadly Delia passed away in 2005 but Maria progressed the idea and launched Me & Dee in the way they both envisioned it. Maria remains unsalaried and has worked for the charity 7 days a week ever since.

The Me & Dee charity has a luxury static caravan by the sea in Mablethorpe. Included with the holiday is a beautiful beach hut that has a sea front view and electricity. At the rear of the beach hut families can enjoy Queens Park which includes a boating lake, cafe, paddling pool and a whole range of family activities.

In addition, the charity has a lovely chalet in Mablethorpe which is situated just a few minutes’ walk from miles of gorgeous sandy beaches.

Me & Dee charity have to date helped over 2000 families make memorable experiences.
