It’s hard to believe Kate and Kerry only joined Obsession Salon & Spa just over 3 months ago and that is testimony to how well they have settled in and how much our guests love them. Kerry joined from a salon in Wolverhampton where she’d worked for 14 years as a Senior Stylist and Kate rejoined Obsession Salon & Spa after a few years away in Scotland. We’ve caught up with Kate and Kerry to see how they’re getting on…
Styling & colouring by Kerry
I’m absolutely loving working here. I honestly feel like I’ve never worked anywhere else. I’ve been made to feel so welcome not only by the Obsession team but also by the wonderful guests. I get how it’s difficult to transition to a new stylist and ‘give them a go’ but I’ve received so many beautiful reviews from my guests since I started and I feel like I’m part of the Obsession family now!
I have to say it’s lovely being back here at Obsession, it feels like home. The team are amazing to work with and have made me feel part of the Obsession family again. The clients have also been a delight to catch up with and I’m thankful to all of them for making my job an absolute joy.
Kerry: Most definitely the team. We don’t just work together, we laugh together, we help each other, we have each other’s backs. The best day was on the Saturday, the very last day before we closed for the Christmas break. We all dressed in festive clothes and the atmosphere was fabulous amongst the team.
Kate: Without a doubt my hilarious and fabulous colleagues. It’s a wonderful relaxed, friendly atmosphere to work in. Also, just the pure enjoyment of meeting all the clients from the past and present has been really fun!!!!

Kerry: I love colouring. It’s a fine art, balancing what a guest wants to achieve with what will suit their skin tone and also what will work on the type of hair they have. Also a guests’ lifestyle plays a massive part. There’s no point in creating a beautiful look that will mean the guest will need to return to salon every 4 weeks when their lifestyle simply won’t allow this. I love the science behind the colouring process too. Mixing the various elements together to ensure the end result works on all elements of the hair from root to ends. Hair colour is in an exciting phase at the moment and being a L’oreal salon we’re in a great position to hear about the latest innovations and products first. In fact, L’Oreal are coming to provide some Inoa training next week – it’s an oil-based colour which is much healthier for the scalp but still gives high impact colour so I’m really excite about that.
Kate: The favourite part of my job is delivering the best experience I possibly can to all my clients. I am dedicated to meeting all my client’s needs, so they leave the salon FEELING FABULOUS! I would probably say my super skill is my knowledge, love, and trust in Kerastase. It really is the best brand I have ever worked with. You can tell instantly the difference a Fusio Dose treatment has made especially after a colour application. They revive and restore the hair like no other treatment. My wonder product has to be Elixir Ultime serum. It allows brushes to glide through the hair easily and the shine and texture of the hair feels INCREDIBLE!
Stunning big and bouncy blow dry by Kate – look at the shine!
Kerry: I’ve been reading about ribbon lights recently and seen a lot of London salons are creating these looks. It’s like a delicate, refined version of highlights – so basically less chunky. It works really well with contrasting colours, where you can create definition between the light and dark sections. It looks really beautiful. I think there’s a lot of creativity in hair colour at the moment. Red is still a really popular trend at the moment but needs consideration to ensure the tone of red will work with skin tone. Using golden copper freehand colour will often work to give a more natural depth but still bringing that vibrancy to the hair. And I’d always recommend using the right products to maintain the colour at home. Kerastase have a great range which we sell in salon for home use. Using the right one will ensure the colour lasts and doesn’t fade or worse still become a different colour.
Kate: For me the French Bob is a winner that’s trending now. It’s a relaxed and sophisticated style with an essence of Coco Chanel about it.
Another style which I absolutely love is the Butterfly cut for mid length to long hair. It’s a layered look with a carefree feel and soft movement that frames the face BEAUTIFULLY!
