Ella joined Team Obsession Salon & Spa in November 2022 and is about to become our latest Graduate Stylist which we’re all very excited about as Ella is a valued and very hard-working member of the team. Ella’s work ethic started when she was just 11 years old, when she began working in the fast food and retail industries. After leaving school, despite having a real passion for hair, Ella began a degree in psychology at university before realising it was the hair industry where she would be happiest. Ella enrolled for an apprenticeship and the rest as they say is history. Psychology’s loss is very much Obsession’s gain!
“Friends and family always told me I’d be a natural” says Ella. “The creativity and the personal side of the industry is what attracted me. I love how having your hair cut, coloured or even just styled can brighten someone up and have such a major impact.”
Ella is studying at South Staffordshire College in Tamworth and will soon graduate with a Level 2 in Professional Hairdressing. “I’ve loved learning in a practical way by being in the salon in Lichfield as well as at college. What I struggled with in the beginning has now become my absolute passion: highlights using foils. I love the colour side of the hair industry. It’s so creative. I am a real perfectionist and won’t rest until I feel I’ve achieved the perfect look for my guests. In the future I’d love to specialise in extensions and colour, particularly unusual colours which push conventional boundaries! I’d love to be known as the hairstylist to go to when guests want something different – I’d like my guests not to be afraid to ask for anything and to be open and inclusive to all!”
We asked Ella about her experience so far at Obsession Salon and Spa. “Working at Obsession Salon & Spa is amazing” says Ella. “It’s like a family. I love the team that I work with. I have learnt so much from them and everyone always has your back. I have received training from L’oreal and Kerastase as Obsession only works with luxury brands so that’s been really exciting to get insight from these leading brands and understand more about their product ranges. Working for Obsession also gave me the opportunity to be interviewed by Creative Head magazine who were running a feature on Apprentices. It was interesting to hear other Apprentices talking about their experiences and how most Apprentices feel schools should promote this route more, particularly for students who would like to pursue a creative career such as hairdressing.”
When Ella’s not working, she can be found walking her dog, Jasmine, or socialising with her friends, trying out new local restaurants in Lichfield. Ella also enjoys a spa treatment when she has time and her favourite? “The Dermalogica Pro Peel without a doubt! It left my skin feeling amazing!”
